Fresh off of their very first World Cup championship, the Spanish National Soccer Team arrived to a heroes welcome at the Madrid airport on Monday (July 12).

With team members including Gerard Pique, Fernando Llorente, David Villa, Andres Iniesta, Xabi Alonso and Iker Casillas all deboarding the plane, the team was cheered by airport staffers while heading to awaiting transportation.

From there, the team partook in meetings with the Spanish king and prime minister, while also being treated to an open air bus ride through Madrid's historic center.

As for the final match, Spain ended up beating the Netherlands by a score of 1-0 in extra time.

Talking about what the win means to the country, Soledad Gonzalez of Madrid told local press, "It was as if this was unfinished business for Spain and so it's been good for everyone. I hope that, God willing, finally, the Spanish flag means being Spanish and not being a fascist, as was the case not so long ago."
