Laura Ling and Euna Lee: Back in the USA
Gossip Date: 05-08-2009

It has been a very touchy ordeal ever since they were arrested in North Korea for mistakenly crossing the border, and yesterday (August 4) Laura Ling and Euna Lee were returned to the United States.

Thanks to President Bill Clinton’s diplomatic savvy, the two journalists were pardoned under North Korean leader Kim Jong Il’s approval.

Ling, whose sister Lisa Ling is a well-known media personality, told press, “Thirty hours ago, Euna Lee and I were prisoners in North Korea. We feared that at any moment we would end up in a hard-labor camp. Then we were told that we were going to a meeting. We were taken to a location, and when we walked thought the doors, we saw standing before us President Bill Clinton. We were shocked, but we knew that the nightmare of our lives would soon be over.”

Of her husband’s mission to rescue the ladies, Secretary of State Hilary Clinton told press,"He was so happy and so relieved to bring these two women home.”
