Nashville Cancelled As Hayden Panettiere Re-Enters Rehab
Gossip Date: 13-05-2016

Bosses at ABC have cancelled Hayden Panettiere's country music drama 'Nashville' hours after the actress announced she is seeking more help for postpartum depression.

The 26-year-old has been struggling with mental health issues since giving birth to her daughter Kaya in 2014, and she checked in to rehab in October after taking a leave of absence from her TV series.

On Thursday (May 12), Hayden revealed the initial treatment wasn't enough, and she took to Twitter to announce she is seeking further help.

"The postpartum depression I have been experiencing has impacted every aspect of my life," she wrote. "Rather than stay stuck due to unhealthy coping mechanisms I have chosen to take time to reflect holistically on my health and life. Wish me luck!"

And just hours after the tweet, executives at ABC shared an announcement of their own after deciding to axe Nashville after four seasons.

The series also starred Connie Britton and Charles Esten, and featured many musicians including Brad Paisley, Kesha, and Elton John, who appears in an episode airing in the U.S. next week (18May16).

ABC bosses also cancelled long-running drama Castle, just weeks after show star Stana Katic announced her departure. The series, which also featured Nathan Fillion, ran for eight seasons.

Among the other cancellations in a big ABC overhaul are The Muppets and The Family, while Galavant, the show starring Kylie Minogue's boyfriend Joshua Sasse, and Hayley Atwell's Captain America spin-off series Agent Carter have also been axed.

Atwell, who played the titular Agent Peggy Carter, also received some good news on Thursday - the pilot for her new drama Conviction was picked up by ABC executives.

There was also bad news for Rob Lowe and John Stamos on Thursday - Fox bosses announced the cancellation of their comedies The Grinder and Grandfathered. (TD/HR/KL)
