Gossip Date: 06-07-2012

Vital records for Andy Griffith have been filed just two days after he passed away confirming that the cause of death was a heart attack, according to the death certificate filed in Dare County, North Carolina on Thursday (July 6).

The legendary actor's death certificate shows that the 86-year-old had a heart attack 24 hours before he died at 7 a.m. Tuesday (July 3), and reveals that he has been buried in the Griffith Family Cemetery in Manteo.

Records also indicate that Andy suffered from several other illnesses for years before passing including coronary artery disease, hypertension and hyperlipidemia, (which could be a form of high cholesterol or high triglycerides).

The comedian - who left behind his wife, Cindi Knight of 29 years - was lowered into a grave around 11:30 a.m. ET on Tuesday, just five hours after he was pronounced dead as a funeral spokesperson confirms to CNN adding, "It had been planned for some time, this was the wish of his family."

In a statement released by Andy's wife the day of his passing Cindi says, "Andy was a person of incredibly strong Christian faith and was prepared for the day he would be called Home to his Lord, he is the love of my life, my constant companion, my partner, and my best friend. I cannot imagine life without Andy, but I take comfort and strength in God's Grace and in the knowledge that Andy is at peace and with God."
