Jessica Simpson was born July 10, 1980 and left school at the age of sixteen to tour the Christian music circuit. It was hear that she was discovered by Columbia Records and was later signed to the record.

Simpson’s first album, Sweet Kisses, was released with one of her singles peaking at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Jessica then toured with Ricky Martin and 98 Degrees, where she met her former husband Nick Lachey. She married Nick Lachey October 26, 2002, and their reality show Newlyweds began in 2003, launching both singers into the spotlight and making them household names.

Aside from singing, Simpson has also made a small foray into film. In 2005, she starred alongside Johnny Knoxville and Sean Williams as Daisy Duke in The Dukes of Hazzard. The film did not receive rave reviews, but instead generated constant rumours of an affair between Jessica and co-star Johnny Knoxville. However, both were married at the time and strongly denied the rumours. Her second film was Employee of the Month was releaser October 6, 2006, again, Simpson received poor reviews for her role in the movie, and the film itself was a flop.

Simpson’s third film, Blonde Ambition, was the biggest flop of all. The film made less then US$7,000 at the box office, and was released straight to DVD in January 2008. After a panning by the critics, Jessica then returned to her music career, which was also in need of a revival.

In 2006, Jessica switched music labels, moving from Columbia to Epic Records. Her fourth album received a lacklustre response and in 2008 she made the decision to steer her career more toward the country music scene. Her first country album debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums, the only album in her career to reach #1.
