Brett Lee is one of Australia’s finest cricketers. He is an express bowler, one of the fastest the game has known, and is capable of bowling at 160 km/h (99 mph, he is also an athletic fielder and aggressive lower-order batsman with a batting average exceeding 20.

Lee is one of three boys and was first introduced to cricket at the age of eight, by his brother Shane – who is also a prominent cricketer and New South Wales Blues captain. He began playing first grade cricket for Campbelltown when he was sixteen, and also played for the Australian Under 17 & 19 teams and was awarded a scholarship to attend the Australian Cricket Academy.

Between 1994 – 1998, Lee suffered stress fractures in his lower back, which resulted in him missing several cricket tours. Then in 1999, Lee bowled during a Sheffield Shield match at Perth, and following his performance Australian captain Steve Waugh and then vice-captain Shane Warne began pushing for Lee's inclusion in the Test team - e duly made his Test debut for Australia in December 1999 against the touring Indians.

In 2004, Lee suffered from a bad ankle injury, forcing him to return home to have surgery. This injury subsequently forced Lee out of cricket for 4½ months to ensure his full recovery, and it was a further eighteen months until he was able to regain his Test position.

In the 2006/2007 Ashes series, Lee was widely criticised for his poor form of bowling. However, he worked on his technique and in the fourth series he was gaining more wickets and finished highest wicket taker in the 2006/07 Ashes series ahead of all the English bowlers, and these days Lee is widely regarded as one of the world's finest and most feared bowlers.

Lee has won the following highly regarded awards: The Donald Bradman Young Player of the Year 2000, The Wisden Young Cricketer of the Year 1999-2000, Wisden Cricketer of the Year 2006, 2007 McGilvray Medallist for ABC's Australian Test Player of the year, 2008 Australian Test Player of the Year, 2008 Allan Border Medallist.

Lee was married to Elizabeth Kemp in June 2006, and they gave birth to their first child Preston Charles, on 16 November 2006. However, after two years of marriage, on 21 August 2008 Lee confirmed his separation from Kemp.
