An average looking, but highly talented and one of the most sincere and intense actors of Indian film industry (Bollywood), Ajay Devgan has been successful in reaching the top ranks of a highly competitive film industry.

Son of the famous stunt director Veeru Devgan, Ajay was born on 2 April 1969 as Vishal Devgan in Delhi, India. Veeru always believed that his son would become a very famous actor one day. And Ajay didn't leave any stone unturned to ensure that he fulfilled his father's belief.

The very successful action flick 'Phool Aur Kaante' (1991) proved to be a worthy launch vehicle for Ajay. His amazing dare devil stunts especially that of riding two motor cycles at the same time, left people agape. The film's audio also sold like hot cakes, and Ajay won the Best Male Debut award for the movie. However, Ajay showed maturity in his acting from early on and is widely regarded as one of the finest actors in Bollywood.

Though, Ajay's earlier movies were all action flicks he broke this image after staring in the super hit comedy 'Ishq' (1997). This story of rich boy meets and falls in love with poor girl, tugged at the hearts of Indian audiences and showcased Ajay in a different light - an actor with exceptional comic timing.

But, the film that really brought true success for Ajay was the critically acclaimed movie 'Zakhm' (1999). In this movie, Ajay played the role of a man who loses his mother in the Mumbai communal riots. His extremely sensitive and sincere act as the troubled illegitimate son of a Muslim woman won him the National Film Awards for Best Actor.

He followed this stellar performance with an equally powerful performance in the action flick 'Kachche Dhaage' (1999). Thereafter, Ajay acted in movies such as 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' (1999). This film was a huge commercial success and Ajay's sensitive portrayal of a husband whose wife loves another man was commendable. Ajay gave another National Award winning performance in 'The Legend of Bhagat Singh' (2003), where he essayed the role of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh who went to gallows at the young age of 23 while fighting for India's independence.

Ajay also acted in his own home productions, 'Dil Kya Kare', 'Pyar Toh Hona Hi Tha' the Indian version of 'French Kiss' with his current wife Kajol. Then on his association with acclaimed director, Ram Gopal Verma resulted in two hard-hitting movies 'Bhoot' and 'Company' (2002). The first was a super natural thriller, while the later was a mob movie, where Ajay played the role of a mob king. Both the movies were proved to be successful at the box office and Ajay Devgan's versatility as an actor of reckoning was well established.
Some of his other successful films include 'Omkara' (2006), 'Aparaharn' (2005), 'Kaal' (2005), 'Golmaal' (2005), 'Khakhee' (2004), and 'Gangaajal' (2003).

Ajay Devgan is married to popular actor Kajol since 1999, and has a daughter, Nysa born in 2003.

Ajay's strength as an actor lies in his eyes that emote each emotion beautifully and draw audiences to experience the agony, happiness, or anger of the part he portrays.
